I'm looking for information on Othello programs. Have there been any tournaments since the one written up in BYTE in 1981? Is there a reigning champion? Do the best programs use heuristics or brute-force techniques? How many levels do the brute-force ones look ahead, and how close to the endgame can they do a complete tree search? Also, does anyone recommend any books or newsletters on Othello? I'm awaiting a copy of Hasegawa & Brady's "How To Win At Othello" through a library, but have been unable to find any other books. -- Mike Morton USENET: ..!decvax!dartvax!mike or ..!linus!dartvax!mike USMail: c/o Kiewit Computation Center, Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH 03755
