Message-ID: <1144@pur-phy.UUCP> Date: Fri, 13-Jan-84 17:09:59 EST Article-I.D.: pur-phy.1144 Posted: Fri Jan 13 17:09:59 1984 Date-Received: Sun, 15-Jan-84 00:01:58 EST Organization: Purdue University Physics Dept. Lines: 19 I just got in a couple of new Teac slim-line floppies this week and I had a minor problem with them. It seems that Teac has made some changes in the controller board. The new drives work correctly on my MAX-80 and old TRS-80, but not on the LNW-80. The older drives worked correctly on all three machines. The new drives are using line #34 as a "ready" signal. On TRS-80 (model one) and the MAX this line is not connected, so no problem. But on the LNW, line #34 is connected to line #32. I solved the problem by putting a piece of electrical tape over the edge connector so line #34 doesn't make contact. The drives work fine now. I will check to see if there is a way to fix this with strap options when the tech manual gets here, but meanwhile, LNW-80 owners should know that the new Teac drives won't work on their machines. Other than this problem, I have had very good luck with the Teac drives. They are cheap, fast, and reliable. Rich Piner Purdue Physics Dept.
