  Even though I thought I knew the answer to the question in the title,
when trying to explain the difference to someone, I realized that the
rash of recalls/expansions/etc. left me unable to pin down the differences.
  Given that a 1200XL is selling for $200 and an 800XL is selling for
about $300, I wanted to know how much memory, whether BASIC is included,
whether known bugs/reliability was a problem, etc. for the ATARI line.
