I was starting a new account at an S&L, and needed to use cash in order to write a check within the next week. (Their policy is to hold even cashier's checks from a bank for 5 days before allowing one to write checks on it.) So I got a check for several thousand bucks from my credit union and went to the bank it was drawn on. They wouldn't give me cash for the whole thing! They gave me a few thousand in cash that I could hand carry, and the rest in a cashier's check ... and they charged me $2.50 for the cashier's check! Fooey! And the teller sneered and said that the S&L could just call them to verify that a cashier's check for the whole amount was good so that I could use it immediately (not true - I checked again at the S&L). Fooey! Maybe this should have gone to net.flame. Jim Gillogly I/ / randvax!jim I_/ jim@rand-unix I
