Message-ID: <223@vortex.UUCP> Date: Thu, 12-Jan-84 05:10:52 EST Article-I.D.: vortex.223 Posted: Thu Jan 12 05:10:52 1984 Date-Received: Fri, 13-Jan-84 05:45:14 EST Organization: Vortex Technology, Los Angeles Lines: 20 Greetings. I've been watching the various data being sent through net.sources lately, and I'm beginning to wonder if a certain amount of misuse (note that I'm not saying "abuse") is taking place. In particular, I am concerned that rather specialized and voluminous materials, likely to be of interest to a relatively small number of individuals, are being posted. When a person receives "several" or "a few" requests for information, it might be better to consider using direct mail for distribution to those persons, rather than spending bundles of money delivering to sites which are likely to not particularly care about that item. Perhaps a rule of thumb might be that "large" (say, larger than 25K byte) files should only be posted if they are (a) of general interest to the network community or (b) a large number of requests for the materials have been received. Just a suggestion. --Lauren--
