Co., Everett, Wash Lines: 18 Within the next month or so, I plan to start designing and implementing a remote file access server for sharing the news database among machines connected to a TCP/IP LAN. I am really tired of duplicating the database on each and every machine in our network, so I guess I'm just going to bite the bullet and change news! What I plan to do is to specify one machine as the database machine (normally also the outside interface machine, the one that runs UUCP). News will run relatively undisturbed on this machine, except for the presence of a server daemon for the other machines. The other machines will access the news database via the news server. This means addition of flags to the sys file, and probably major changes to other modules. If anyone is interested in contributing to this project, I would really appreciate any help. I expect to complete the design by the end of the month and the implementation should proceed soon after. Please respond by mail if you are interested in helping out or whatever. /Joe Kelsey {decvax!microsoft, uw-beaver, ucbvax!lbl-csam}!fluke!joe
