I think dereference can have a meaning:

If by referencing something, you make a pointer to it, you can
consider dereferencing to be bashing the pointer.  Rereferencing
would be "unbashing" the pointer.  Unrerefercing would be
"rebashing" the pointer.  You can see that this has the potential
to get out of hand....

(I suppose I shouldn't read JOKES before all the other groups)
