While taking a course in meteorology, we were told that the wind chill factor can be obtained from a function that depends upon the wind speed, ambient air temperature, and the relative humidity. A meteorologist had spent a tremendous amount of time assessing the effects of cold winds on exposed human skin. The wind chill factor is the result of these experiments. Unfortunately, we were not given names or references for this feat. Perhaps next time. -- Patrick Wyant AT&T Bell Laboratories (Naperville, IL) *!ihuxm!gjphw
