Poland most emphatically does NOT use the cyrillic
alphabet.  Such a suggestion could start a fight in
some of the less-than-elegant bars in Warsaw, where I
lived for two years.  (In Warsaw, not in a bar!) 

The Poles in general have little love for Russians.
The joke is told of the time the Mayor (or whatever) of
Warsaw was trying to get rid of the rats in the city.
Finally a little guy brought a wind-up rat to city hall,
wound it up and let it go.  It ran around, gathering a
large crowd of rats following it, and finally went into
the Wisla River (That's 'Vistula' in English.  Ugly
name, I like the original better).  The Mayor crowed
wiht glee, and offered the little guy any reward he
could name.  "But first" he said "do you have any
little wind-up Russion Soldiers....?"
