I bought a used super sure-shot myself, and have had lots of blank pictures
(about 10-15%).  This is beginning to worry me.

I wonder if it has to do with the fact that sometimes, the camera cannot
focus (none of the little indicators come on), and maybe the dumb camera
never opens the shutter, bu advances the film anyway?
