I fully concur with Randy Haskin's distaste for purchased gifts.  In
general, when I give a gift it is something I made with my own hands.  
My most treasured possessions are two shirts my sister made for me.  My
exceptions to the "no purchased gifts" rule are when I stumble across
some hand-made item of particular beauty, and getting stuff cheap in
Mexico for my family (AMAZINGLY cheap, I might add).
