A "subway series" is a World Series in which both teams are
located in the same city--the term "subway" referring to the
method of transportation between playing sites.  New York, where
the public transportation electric rail system is called "the
subway", has been host to several such World Series.  It is the
only city to bear that distinction so far.  I guess the only
other candidate these days is Chicago, which is to say that
New York will retain that honor indefinitely.
