Filesystem movement was finished this afternoon (which is why the daily backups today were at noon!). Bootstraps have been set up and seem to work; the only annoyance here is that the cold-start sequence is a trifle lengthy. A revised version of the "Rebooting the system" sign is in preparation. The most immediate visible effect of the change is that "df" takes a long time and reports very large numbers. It's telling the truth. The free-space counts on both usr and zoo are six digits long, and this with a filesystem layout that (at present) only uses about half of the space on the Eagles. Much performance tuning and suchlike is still to be done; this was a hurry-up job. Also yet to be done is disaster-recovery arrangements, for which we are still dependent on the Ampex disks temporarily. The quietness in the machine room is quite unsettling. -- Henry Spencer @ U of Toronto Zoology {allegra,ihnp4,linus,decvax}!utzoo!henry
