(Does that mean it is no longer a rumor?) The first one is that there are numerous problems in the current production runs of the 80186; most notably DMA problems and the fact that the divide instruction fails when one of the operands is negative and in memory. Because of these problems Intel is said to have recalled all of their 80186s that were out a month ago and has slipped quite a bit in shipping the things. The second rumor (and hopefully unfounded) is that Intel has decided; due to the above; to punt on the 80186 al- together; ie., that there will be no more 80186s shipped or manufactured. Presumably this would mean that they would concentrate on and push the 80286 to all their would-be 80186 customers. I am interested in hearing (by mail only please) any responses, confirmations, other bug reports etc on the 186. Tony Bennett Reply by mail to ...mcnc!tucc!tony
