I just don't know whether its possible, practical or desirable: The earliest time in which a baby can be delivered prematurely has been dropping as medical technology advances. What if it became possible to deliver (with a high degree of confidence) a baby as early as the fourth month of pregnancy? (First question: Will this ever be possible? I suppose artificial wombs could be developed, but I don't know) This would allow, instead of being aborted, a baby to be born and passed on to adoption agencies. (Second question: Will this be practical given the high cost of medical care, the large number of abortions being performed today, and the limited state/ federal resources available?) (Third question: This idea conjures images of Brave New World. Does this seem to be a desirable or moral alternative to abortion?) Fire away... David Pugh (uofm-cv!cosivax!dep)
