I once had what I thought to be a transmission problem so I took
the car to AA(honk honk)MCO.  The 1st to 2nd shift went fine, but
the 2nd to 3rd shift would stumble (and downshift and upshift) a
couple of times before settling into 3rd.  The AAMCO guy assured
me he knew just what the problem was after driving the car around
the block.  For $99 he would verify it, and the whole job would
cost around $450.  Being a poor student at the time I said NO
WAY.  The next day I changed the plugs and the problem went away.
