Get an Audi quattro packaged as a 4000.  Full time four wheel drive, about
110 horsepower from the 5 cylinder engine, and pretty good gas mileage.
Two drawbacks: No hatchback version, $$$$$$$.  Other than that, seems like
the car you are looking for.
