I tried a non-power assist Stanza and it was very diffcult to turn the car at low speeds (I used to drive a manual Duster and so was used to a manual steering). I have a feeling that the stanza's steering was built for power assist. On the other hand my sister's Accord has power-assist but the feed back is not as good - I prefer Accords with manual steering. I don't think it is possible to make a general statement like "on front wheel cars power steering is not needed"; it depends very much on the car.
