Another (very restricted way) to ride in a jet: when the Air Guard
in Springfield, IL, got their first F-4's, the governor was given
a ride in one. I tried for years to get my dad to take me up in
one (he was an instructor with the Guard for ~20 years), but he
never would. I'd say your best bet would be to sign up with your
state Air National Guard as a "weekend warrior." You wouldn't be
flying the newest and fastest planes, but they do use jets --
Illinois has had F-4's for more than ten years now.
