Yelling "NO!" is good since most animals are conditioned to that word in some form or another. Also, adopt the attitude that if the dog screws with you, you're going to break its neck. Dogs can sense these things even better than people. Cars, on the other hand... I've considered mounting a sheath for a short-sword on my bike.
