Lines: 20 3 Subject: Problems with a "non-essential" command - GATH/SEND on system V To: Anyone out there with a potential solution Hi there! I've been able to make GATH/SEND remove environment variable definitions under system V running on the 3b20. Has anyone been able to do this on another machine? Do you have any idea how I can get around it, since I don't want this to happen? What happens is that GATH/SEND decides to "unset" a variable in the environment, choosing one at random - not necessarily always the 1st, 10th, nth, etc. This is a major bug for those of us developing source code on UNIX to run on Big Blue. Any ideas? It appears one of the functions in the GATH/SEND source is the culprit (dupenv). The support folks have told me that it is not an essential command and so I shouldn't complain, but as it stands we cannot compile or run anything. I wonder how GATH/SEND can be classified as "non-essential." It sure as hell is essential to me! ...!pyuxss!mek UNIX and the 3b20 are trademarks of AT&T Bell Laboratories. GATH and SEND are copyrighted UNIX System V commands. I hope this covers everything. Big Blue is what you make of it.
