I have found that typing a ^S on a keyboard with output still coming
out and then killing the job causes the job to wait in the exiting
state until a ^Q is typed on the keyboard.  At this time, the
remaining output is dumped, the job exits, and init/getty gets back
into the swing of things.  I suspect that there are other things which
can causes the same problem.
