Message-ID: <235@nmtvax.UUCP> Date: Sat, 14-Apr-84 13:07:24 EST Article-I.D.: nmtvax.235 Posted: Sat Apr 14 13:07:24 1984 Date-Received: Tue, 17-Apr-84 07:01:22 EST Organization: New Mexico Tech, Socorro, N.M. Lines: 46 There is another article in 'net.comics' you should read before this. It is also titled 'Who is the Beyonder.' And if you haven't been reading 'Marvel Super Heroes: The Secret Wars' then I suggest you go on to the next article. Lots of people are probably wondering, "Just who in the hell is this Beyonder-guy?" So far, Marvellites have not come to a dsound conclusion as to the Beyonder's true identity. This is allowable, considering that there are only four issues of MSH:TSW released as of this date. What I intend to do in ths article is conjecture about the Beyonder. Some have said that the Beyonder is not an extension of eternity, while others have argued that he must be (since all creatures in this universe are extensions of Eternity). I would have to agree with the first group. My justification for this comes from issue number one of MSH:TSW, in which the Beyonder states that he is from 'beyond' this universe. Galactus, in reply, asserts this statement by saying: 'I sense that you are truly a being from beyond this universe--this multiverse.' If Galactus could sense the true origin of the Beyonder, would he not know if the Beyonder was, in fact, merely an extension of Eternity (who Galactus calls 'father')? And as far as we know, the Eternity might not have access to other universes. We have seen time-after-time that the cosmos is constructed of bllions of other universes--some slightly parallel to our own. The Beyonder could easily be from one of these universes. Another hint of the Beyonder's 'extra-universal' origin may be in the conspicuous absence of Dr. Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme of our dimension. Strange, in his many travels to other dimensions, may have learned of the existence of Beyonder-like creatures. With his powers, Strange could be quite a contestant to the Beyonder. Perhaps this is why the good doctor was not taken away wth the other heroes (and maybe why Jim Shooter did not write him in). One more thing: if the Beyonder only intended for there to be two sides to the war, why in the hell did he build an extra fortress (where Magneto is holed up)? And why doesn't Professor X try to scan the Beyonder? And what's with this new attitude of the Prof? Hey... someone should kick the old guy around a bit to keep him in line. (Maybe a tussle with Wolverine would be the answer.) And to the guy who asks if anyone is enjoying Secret Wars? Yes, I am. And very much, I might add. I only wish it were a graphic novel instead of a limited series. I can't stand the waiting. Any ideas about the Beyonder, send 'em by mail or post 'em for everyone's benefit.
