In the first place, just because the woman carried the child through pregnancy does not give her a priori, uncontestable rights to raise the child. In my mind, equality of men and women should require the woman to inform the man that he is a father. In addition, its also possible that at some distant point in time, the father might need an organ transplant or transfusion that only his child might be able to give.
