Checked my dictionary, and by gosh, you're right.  Castration only
technically means removing the testes/ovaries.  However, it colloquially
also means "removing the penis."  And since the clitoris is the female
organ analogous to the penis, it's not that far out of line to call
a clitoridectomy a virtual castration.
