My hat's off to Toby Robison for his piece on the rise of Nazism!

Of course, as I am sure he is aware, he has only scratched the surface of
the literature of a period that needs very much to be examined and understood.

There are now, in English, many many accounts by Germans who lived through
the war.  Soldiers, sailors, etc.  Of large importance, are the books by
Albert Speer.
