I'm pleased with the response rate and hope that more people will respond. I have a few comments about the material received so far. First of all, my question about "which site should be removed" was intended to see what kind of response people would make. I won't say what kind of responses I was expecting because not all of the replies have been received yet, but please stop sending me personal flames for even asking the question -- I am not advocating removing anyone from the net. Second of all, I asked for 3 nominations in each category in question #2. I will tally up all the responses and list the results. I asked it this way because I doubt that anyone can easily come up with just one name for each category. Most replies are not naming three. Many responses indicate that they won't put a name down because they cannot come up with just one name! If you sent me a poll response and want to modify it, just send me another mail message and I will merge your responses. Third, Of the 60 or so responses I have received, at least 15 have been through our CSNet or Arpa->CSNet link. That means that a significant percentage of the readership has access to other networks and (in some cases) prefer to use that network for direct mail. I won't try to speculate as to their reasons, but I know that I prefer to use CSnet for direct mail due to the fact that Usenet/uucp mail is hard to route, slow to arrive, and not always going to make it. I am more convinced than ever that I am going to include my alternate addresses in my signature file. I have shortened the file somewhat, however, since a significant percentage of respondants don't seem to like the uncompressed format I had been using. Last of all, I appreciate the responses and their candor. I will *NOT* associate names with responses when I summarize the results to the net. I intend to excerpt interesting comments, but they will not be matched with any identification. I think there are a lot of creative and valuable comments in the responses, and it might be worthwhile to do another poll. If you have any suggestions for questions, send 'em to me and I will see about putting another one together. Til then, keep your responses to this poll coming! -- The soapbox of Gene Spafford CSNet: Spaf @ GATech ARPA: Spaf.GATech @ UDel-Relay uucp: ...!{sb1,allegra,ut-ngp}!gatech!spaf ...!duke!mcnc!msdc!gatech!spaf
