Though for some this is quite alright, many would agree that this type of arrangement will not and in fact does not promote competitive products and reasonable prices in the personal computer class of equipment. Cottage industries cannot grow due to the restricted access to the hard and soft system environment. This factor was crucial to the Apple and IBM PC market, devistated the TI 99/4a, and is currently hamstringing the DEC Rainbow and TI Professional.
