For an excellent description of the Turing test and some thoughts about
what it really means, take a look at Hofstadter's Metamagical Themas
column in Scientific American (around Feb. '82).  It's also reprinted in
his book "The Mind's I" (highly recommended as a thorough, enjoyable,
and thoroughly mind-boggling treatment of the whole question of what
it means to be a conscious entity.  Good luck.)
