There IS a bug with saving/restoring games, folks! I have often saved/restored a game, so I know how to do it (I use the standard save file name, both to save and restore, and I use the command rogue -r to restart). It has worked dozens of times with Rogue 5.3. The *last* time I tried to restart a game, it brought the map up on the screen, displayed all the stats across the bottom, and then went into a mode where it simply echoed each character I typed back on the screen. After about thirty seconds, it went back to command level, regardless of anything I typed. At this time, it apparently re-saved the game, as I can again restart it, with the same (useless) results. You can make slow progress, though, it apparently does ONE command before re-saving the game. I'm talking about Rogue 5.3 ditributed with Berkeley 4.2, and, of course, the game the restore failed on was a really good one (enchanted 2-handed sword, protected +9 armor, and other goodies). How about it, Rogue authors? Michael Stimac ...hplabs!oliveb!tymix!stimac Tymshare, Inc. Cupertino, CA
