(or New jokes (?) ): I note that my last contributions (?) to net.jokes were made up by me, to the best of my knowledge. (They were "proofs" that all odd numbers are prime -- plus one disproof). However, even here, when one is not consciously passing on a joke, there is a danger that one re-invents the joke, either because it's in the "back of one's mind" (one has heard it before, but forgotten that one has heard it), or because one truly re-invents it, perhaps because it's a fairly obvious construction. Also, one probably ought to distinguish between jokes and the forms of jokes. There is a fairly old contention that there are only a relatively small number of joke-patterns in common circulation -- they just get instantiated differently as time goes on. Gordon Fisher
