Xerox, for example, buys media in bulk from various sources, and private- labels it, relying on the FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt) among its customers to extract a premium price for a non-premium product. Of course, it's "certified", but that's no better than a high-quality Verbatim, or a Dysan or Maxell disk. This issue comes up periodically. Don't buy media except with manufacturer's label on it. And, avoid memorex (which may have been the source for the Xerox media), and kind-of-avoid Wabash. 3M is Ok, but with poor quality control.
