This is not a put-down, only a statement that they are playing a proprietary non-standard game. I suggest if you are interested in more mainstream hardware, talk to Cipher, Archive, and DEI (three of the top cartridge tape vendors). All either have or will have soon QIC-24 standard (an update of QIC-2) tapes in a 5-1/4" form factor that connect to a standard 5-1/4" floppy controller. Both 20 Mbyte (4 track, like QIC-2) and 45 Mbyte (7-track QIC-24) formats are supported by some. These tapes will be able to offer interchange with other QIC-24 vendors. Interchange with QIC-2 drives (20 Mbyte) is chancy. Large-volume OEM prices are down sub-$500. Retail? See your street corner re-packager.
