Message-ID: <800@nsc.UUCP> Date: Mon, 2-Apr-84 12:11:47 EST Article-I.D.: nsc.800 Posted: Mon Apr 2 12:11:47 1984 Date-Received: Thu, 5-Apr-84 01:12:01 EST Organization: National Semiconductor, Sunnyvale Lines: 53 Joe Bob at the Drive-in was recently picked up by the San Francisco Chronicle as a weekly column for their Sunday paper. Since he seems to be popular on the net, I thought I would share with you the recent letters sent to the entertainment editor published this weekend: -- It's not so much that he has an axe to grind (so to speak) against women -- that isn't admirable, but it's certainly not unusual. So what's my complaint??? HE'S NOT FUNNY! He's not entertaining, He's not interesting. His 'style' is as compelling as an overloaded trash compactor. -- I still find it hard to Believe that The Chronicle would publish an article which joyously advocates such disgusting violence, as well as the debasement of women as 'bimbos'. Ok, maybe it is a sick world, but we don't need to read about people who recel in seeing '... bimbos in cages getting hosed down...', a midget making love to a severed head, so someone chain sawing their girlfriend. -- I rarely write letters of comment, but the comments printed in the article left me outraged. You might question Mr. Briggs what his mother thinks of his viewpoints -- does he have enormous respect for her simply because she has 'garbonzas the size of Cleveland?' -- The Joe Bob Briggs column may pass for funny in a throwback town like Dallas, but... -- We encourage you to re-establish your former standards of taste and sensitivity... -- Congratulations on the latest addition to the Pink Section, if you know who I'm talking about and I think you do... Keep up the good work. [These were, by the way, heavily edited to so that I didn't get arrested for using obscene language. The letter page ran 10-1 against Joe Bob, and to say that the outrage was mild would be to call Hiroshima a head cold. Something tells me that Joe Bob probably won't stay in the bay area long....] -- From behind the bar at Callahan's: Chuq Von Rospach {amd70,fortune,hplabs,menlo70}!nsc!chuqui (408) 733-2600 x242 It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.
