They have an instinct to communicate with one another, using sound sequences produced by vibrating parts of their bodies, which they call speech. Any sound sequence that they produce deliberately, not purely for verbal information content, but for its emotional or intellectual associations, is music. These emotional and intellectual associations seem to be largely dependent on cultural conditioning and individual experience.
