No, I'm not talking about the earlier 'garage band' style also known as punk-rock (I'd love to talk about it, though)... I mean the Stooges, MC5, and Velvet Underground. They were THE proto-punks and served as inspiration to both latter-day American punkers (New York Dolls, Dictators, RAMONES!!!) as well as the generation of British punks. Sid Vicious often expressed a desire to meet Lou Reed; I believe Sid played several Velvets covers at his last live performance. Andrew W.
