The steroid is probably prednizone, the usual one vets (and MDs) give. The reaction you observed is somewhat more severe than normal, but really nothing out of the ordinary. There is probably no way to counteract the reaction now. However, if you need steroids again, and you will, have the vet try a different one. Our dog got rammy after prednizone, but did OK after whatever he gave her the next time. Just like people, if there is a problem with the medication, try another. It might be better, or the side effects less severe.
