Nixon was a liar, cheat, and a thief, who debased and degraded American public life for a quarter of a century. Although his greed led directly to his downfall, the frightening thing about Nixon is that he was not an anomaly among politicians. Sooner or later a President will come along who is equally crooked, but less stupid and venal - and then we will all be in deep yoghurt.
