Does anyone know how necessary it is to treat redwood posts with wood
preservative before putting them in the ground?  I realize that redwood
lasts quite well in the ground as it is used for retaining walls, fence
posts, etc., but HOW LONG should it last?  With preservative? without?
(We're talking about HEART wood.)

Thanks for any advice/suggestions.
