I.e., it is a common myth because such articles have appeared in net.religion?
Have you read anything by, say, Professor Albright (have you even heard of him)?
Josh McDowell's book "Evidence that demands a verdict" contains sources for a
great many of these mythical historians and archeologists.

I think it would behoove all of us to do some homework.
