A storyline for The Search for Spock began circulating through fandom in May of '83. Although titled "Return to Genesis", it was nonetheless Harve Bennetts proposed story for the third Trek film. While several major elements remain the same, considerable rewriting was done on the story when it bacame clear the plot had leaked out. The Romulans of the old story are now Klingons, and the ending has been completely revised to include Vulcans journeying to Genesis as well as a bizarre secret ceremony which is performed. This scene was shot last September at L.A.'s Occidental College, one of the only scenes which did not take place on the man sound stages occupied by the film. It has been confirmed by inside sources that the scene proposed in the originial story showing the destruction of the Enterprise was one of those cinsidered "too good" to drop. As with the death of Spock in the second film (which was conceived as being more permanent as it turned out to be), not everyone associated with the creation of Star Trek supports the idea. Star Trek III will be release around the same time as another summer blockbuster, "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom". But since both are Paramount releases one can be certain they won't appear to blitz theatre audiances on the same date. ["destruction of the Enterprise"!! I had a hard enough time coming to copes the destruction of Spock! Enterprise Incidents is published by New Media Publishing Inc at monthly intervals.]
