Message-ID: <794@ihuxw.UUCP> Date: Wed, 11-Apr-84 18:43:23 EST Article-I.D.: ihuxw.794 Posted: Wed Apr 11 18:43:23 1984 Date-Received: Fri, 13-Apr-84 01:39:35 EST Organization: AT&T Bell Labs, Naperville, IL Lines: 15 Why should T. C. Wheeler be upset about the Mets giving up Nolan Ryan sometime in the past? Sure Nolan can throw very fast fastballs and strike out a lot of players, sure Nolan has thrown more nohitters and 1-hitters than most pitchers, but WHERE'S THE BEEF? Look at his career win-loss record! Consistently good starting pitchers have good win-loss records, even when on lousy teams! Nolan is only around .500 (I don't know which side of it for certain) in his career. I would never have done what the Astros did a few years ago to get him. Remember that if strikeouts (KOs) were everything, then KOKOmo, Indiana has a lot to be proud of. Scott Pector
