The original flight was Seattle, SFO, Chicago, Dayton. The new ticket charged more for SFO-Dayton, then the original Seattle-Dayton ticket had cost, and I still had to pay for Seattle-SFO. The explanation, as handed to me, was that they charged roughly per mile from origin to destination, and that Seattle and Dayton are closer together than SFO and Dayton.
