There was this song in the episode that went something like this..

Ah- you dont believe that were on the Eve of Destruction.

Someone told me that Eve Of destruction was a real song, and not just 
made up for this episode, and I've looked for it ** everywhere **.  Any
idea if this is true....

Yup, it's a real one, recorded by one Barry McGuire. So far as I know,
it was his only hit, and was quite popular some time in the mid 60s.
