Consider the following excerpt from the du(1) manual page
on our (I think) plain vanilla v7 system.

    BUGS
	 ...
	 If there are too many distinct linked files, du counts the
	 excess files multiply.

Hmm.  How many are too many?
Wish we had a source license.
