I find it difficult to hold such discussions with people who have already made up their minds - it seems like such a waste of time - or with people who have little idea of what they are discussing. Remember that the conventional media have rarely been sympathetic towards the women's movement - antagonistic,belittling, or patronizing, but rarely sympathetic. Perhaps what I should have said is those of you who are interested in learning what the women's movement is all about but who have never read any movement literature might start with these... I would imagine that Brownmiller's comment (about men being irritable 365 days of the year) was meant to be at least a little bit humorous (oh dear, I forgot feminists don't have a sense of humor...) and was probably made in response to the belief that a woman's moods can be explained according to the time of the month (please, no flames about PMS).
