The somewhat trivial drawback is the requirement that they have centers on a pixel. My preference is to specify major and minor axes so that axes of all, not just odd, number of pixels, can be given. On the other hand, I am not yet sure the error is consequential. In our application we tend to have curves >=3 pixels wide, so even a tangent to an ellipse which missed by 1 pixel might not show. Current versions of Impress give up too easily when they can not put the whole path on the page, but Imagen will be fixing this they tell me.
