I note from the most recent "Science News" that U. California has received a
$36 millon (!) bequest from a Marion O. Hoffman to build an optical
telescope with a 10 meter mirror on Mauna Kea (probably) as a memorial to
her husband Max.  Would anyone involved in the project care to provide more
technical details to the net?  When I was at Berkeley, there was quite a
feud going on between rival mirror designs ("rubber" vs. thin ceramic).
