I don't know anything about FWDs, but I know of at least one other
manual transmission that wants ATF-- my very own '66 Dodge 4-speed.  I
found the recommendation so strange that I called my local Chrysler
dealer, whose mechanic told me you can run it on either ATF or gear
oil; use ATF if it shifts hard, use oil if it's noisy, or mix the two!
