        My GM-made '84 Corvette lights a white light to the side
in the direction you signal, if the front lights are on.  You say this
is supposed to aid parallel parking at night?  Seems pretty
strange to me.  I sort of thought they were supposed to help you
see if a neighboring lane was clear when driving on dark
freeways.  I've never used them, in either case, and in fact I
find them somewhat distracting.
